Carbon credit ratings Marketplace Forestry · ARR

Rate carbon like an actuary, not an appraiser.

Akrov grades forestry carbon credits with continuous satellite measurement — three independent sensors, a verified 95% confidence interval, and a public audit trail that can't be silently edited. Then it lists and settles them.

A measurement, not an opinion — built for buyers, sellers, and the capital between them.

The problem

The carbon market pays for quality. It just can't measure it.

The voluntary carbon market has a credibility crisis — and it is measurable.

  • Certified once, audited rarely

Projects are checked periodically, not continuously. A forest can degrade for years between audits with no one noticing.

  • Opinions, not measurements

The ratings buyers rely on are expert judgments — proprietary, static, sold separately from the credit, with no published uncertainty.

  • Baselines chosen, not tested

The 2023 collapse in confidence was driven by cherry-picked baselines — a design flaw, not a measurement error.

  • Good credits sit unsold

High-quality projects get tarred with the bad. Without a trusted signal to separate them from junk, their credits go unbought.

The solution

A grade you can reproduce, not just believe.

Akrov is building a quantitative rating and marketplace for forestry carbon: a reproducible grade with published uncertainty, updated continuously — and settlement in the same place.

Multi-sensor fusion

Radar sees through clouds. Optical tracks greenness. LiDAR measures height. Three independent measurements, cross-checked against each other.

Incumbents use one or two.

A verified 95% confidence interval

Every estimate ships with a statistically guaranteed error bound, via conformal prediction. We publish how sure we are.

Nobody else does.

Causal additionality

We test whether a project's carbon is actually caused by the project — matched control sites and difference-in-differences, not a developer-chosen baseline.

Attacks the 2023 failure directly.

An immutable public audit trail

Every grade update is hashed and anchored on-chain. Nothing in the history can be silently edited — including by us. Retirement is a permanent burn.

Double-counting is impossible.

Sylvera tells you what an expert thinks. Akrov shows you what three satellites measured, how sure the model is, and every change since — signed, public, permanent.

How it works

From orbit to retirement, in five steps.

01

Measure

Continuous satellite monitoring — radar, optical, and LiDAR — over every project, with a fresh pass every 30–45 days.

02

Model

A calibrated model converts what the satellites see into above-ground biomass using biome-matched allometry, then into tonnes of CO₂ — each estimate carrying its verified confidence interval.

03

Grade

An 8-category engine scores the credit and assigns a tier, AAA to BBB — continuously updated, and downgraded within days if fire, drought, or clearing is detected.

04

List

Graded credits appear on the marketplace. Buyers filter by type, tier, confidence interval, geography, and price.

05

Settle & retire

Credits are transacted and permanently retired on-chain, with cryptographic proof of retirement for compliance reporting.

The grade

Eight categories. One number. A hard floor.

Every credit is scored across eight weighted categories. The composite maps to a tier — and below the floor, a credit is rejected, not listed with caveats.

  • Physical permanence28%
  • Ecological vulnerability18%
  • Additionality + seller profile14%
  • Quantification accuracy12%
  • Baseline integrity10%
  • Leakage risk8%
  • Social safeguards5%
  • Satellite compliance history5%

Weights are fixed and published. If a fire, drought, or clearing is detected, the grade moves — within days, not at the next audit cycle.

AAA
90–100

Highest integrity — strong on every category, tight uncertainty.

AA
75–89

High integrity with minor, quantified weaknesses.

A
60–74

Sound, with identified risk factors priced in.

BBB
45–59

Acceptable — the lowest tier Akrov will list.

Below BBB, a credit is rejected — not listed with caveats. That's the integrity floor.
Market · why now

The market has already repriced around quality.

These figures describe the industry — the market Akrov is built for, not Akrov's own results.

≈6×

Quality premium

Post-2023, A-to-AAA-rated credits traded around $14.80/tonne against roughly $3.50 for the lowest-rated. Removal credits now trade ~381% above reduction credits.

$5.8B

Forward carbon contracts, 2025

Up 58% year-on-year — demand is moving upstream into multi-year commitments, not disappearing.

31 Mt

Forestry offtakes signed in 2025

Multi-year agreements, many running to 2050 — even as spot retirements of low-quality forestry credits hit multi-year lows.

$1.24B

Largest reforestation fund, 2026

BTG Pactual's timberland arm closed a $1.24B reforestation fund — backed in part by development finance. Institutional capital is entering at scale.

The standard has caught up: Verra VM0047 (2025)

The first methodology to set additionality with a dynamic, remote-sensing performance benchmark — a causal, data-driven test. It's the direction the whole market is heading, and it's exactly how Akrov measures. The first VM0047 project — 25,000 hectares in Brazil's Cerrado — is already issuing credits into premium demand.

"The 2023 reckoning didn't kill the carbon market — it reorganised it around quality. Akrov is the measurement layer that quality now depends on."

For sellers & project developers

Prove your quality. Capture its value.

High-integrity credits command a multiple over commodity ones. A credible, transparent grade is what unlocks that price.

  • Earn the quality premium

High-integrity credits trade at a multiple over commodity ones. A transparent grade separates yours from the junk.

  • Cheaper, continuous monitoring

Satellite MRV replaces expensive, infrequent manual audits — measurement runs in the background, every 30–45 days.

  • Reach serious buyers

The grade travels with the credit — buyers don't need to commission a separate rating to trust it.

  • Access to finance

A trusted, forward-looking grade helps unlock pre-purchase and offtake finance — capital when a project needs it, not years later.

  • A measurement, not an opinion

A reproducible grade with a verified 95% confidence interval — you can see exactly how sure it is.

  • Always current

Continuous monitoring means you know your credits are still intact — not just that they passed an audit two years ago.

  • Verify it yourself

Open methodology and an on-chain audit trail. Trust, but check.

  • Retire with proof

Permanent on-chain retirement gives cryptographic evidence for compliance reporting. Double-counting is impossible.

For buyers & corporates

Technology

Under the hood.

The stack is built from published, inspectable science — not a black box.

  • Three sensors, fused

    Sentinel-1 radar + Sentinel-2 optical + GEDI spaceborne LiDAR, fused and co-registered.

  • Biome-matched allometry

The right equation for the right forest — not one global default.

  • Conformal prediction

Finite-sample, verified confidence intervals — the error bound is a statistical guarantee, not a hope.

  • Causal additionality

Matched control sites and staggered difference-in-differences — carbon attributed to the project, not the weather.

  • On-chain audit trail

Every grade update hashed and anchored; retirement is an irreversible burn.

A wider interval applies a larger deduction — the buyer is credited the conservative lower bound, never the mean. That is why the number survives scrutiny.
